We believe that Jesus was and is the Messiah. In Him, the Kingdom of God broke through into what we've known as "reality." We believe we currently live "between the times"—both experiencing tastes of the coming Kingdom and the effects of sin.

Some Images That Help Guide Us at VCW
Value statements and statements of faith can be helpful, but sometimes pictures can say even more. Here are some stories and pictures from Scripture that guide us here at VCW.

Aaron and Hur (Exodus 17:8-13)
Here the children of Israel win the fight when Moses hands are raised but they start losing when he lowers his hands. Aaron and Hur came alongside Moses when his arms grow weary and they held them up. The Israelites won the war.

We are all fighting battles. It might be people battling illness or isolation or any other symptom of living in this present age. It might be a battle one generation is fighting. It might be one that’s particular to a certain life stage (high school people, singles, marrieds, empty-nesters, etc.).

We want to be people like Aaron and Hur, the kind of people that will stand beside each other and lift each others hands. This might be people from one generation helping another generation fight their battle, or people in different lifestages (single, empty-nester, young kids), or any other number of battles.

Bezalel and Oholiab (Exodus 35:30-35 TNIV)

Then Moses said to the Israelites, “See, the LORD has chosen Bezalel…and he has filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skills—to make artistic designs for work in gold, silver and bronze, to cut and set stones, to work in wood and to engage in all kinds of artistic crafts. And he has given both him and Oholiab…the ability to teach others. He has filled them with skill to do all kinds of work as engravers, designers, embroiderers in blue, purple and scarlet yarn and fine linen, and weavers…

Moses and Aaron Stemming the Plague (Numbers 16:41-50)
This is a powerful story. The Israelites began complaining that Korah and his followers had just been killed by God for rebelling against Moses. God became so angry, he told Moses and Aaron to get out of the way so he could kill them all with a plague.

Moses’ and Aaron’s first response was to fall flat on their face in a posture of intercession. Then Moses tells Aaron to take his censor, run into the midst of the people, and offer a sacrifice of incense to stop the plague that had already started. Aaron did and the plague was stopped.

We want to be a church that isn’t comfortable being smug and right. We want to be like Moses and Aaron, falling on our face in prayer and running into the midst of the plague to intercede.

Joshua and the people of Israel following the ark (Joshua 3:3-4)
When Joshua went into the Promised Land, he was told to follow quite a ways behind the ark because he’d never been that way before.

We too want to be a people that move forward to take the land but always desiring the presence of God to lead us.

The Widow’s Offering (Luke 21:1-4)
While teaching in the Temple courts, Jesus saw people making their gifts. Many gave out of their wealth. Then a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins. “Truly I tell you,” he said, “this poor widow has put in more than all the others…out of her poverty [she] put in all she had to live on.”

We want to be a people that would put our all into advancing the Kingdom. We don’t want to hold anything back.
